Learn More About the Human Eye
Conjunctiva- This is the clear layer over the white of the eye. The eye's "skin".
Sclera- The white outside of the eye. It serves as the wall of the eye.
Cornea- The clear layer at the front of the eye.
Iris- The colored part of the eye. It acts as a diaphragm to adjust the amount of light entering the eye through the pupil.
Pupil- A hole in the center of the Iris through which light passes to the lens and the Retina.
Anterior Chamber- The space between the the Cornea and the Iris filled with a liquid called Vitreous Humor.
Lens- Focuses light onto the Retina. Where Cataracts are formed as the lens becomes cloudy.
Vitreous Body- This is a gel-like substance that fills the majority of the inside of the eye.
Retina- This a layer of tissue lining the inside of the back of the eye. The Retina absorbs the incoming light and sends impulses to the brain via the Optic Nerve. The brain then translates the impulses into the images that you see.
Macula- The center of the Retina where sharp, detailed, central vision is located.
Optic Nerve- The nerve that carries the impulses from the Retina to the brain.
